Pinavega Browser Extension Privacy Policy
Privacy policy for the Pinavega Browser Extension, including active tab analysis, local storage, backlink lookup, permissions, data use, sharing, retention, and Chrome Web Store limited use practices.
Last updated: June 5, 2026
This Privacy Policy applies to the Pinavega Browser Extension for Chrome and compatible Chromium-based browsers. It explains what information the extension handles, how that information is used, what is stored locally, what may be transmitted over the network, and how the extension complies with Chrome Web Store privacy expectations.
This policy applies only to the browser extension. The Pinavega website is covered by the separate Pinavega Privacy Policy.
1. Extension Purpose
The Pinavega Browser Extension is an SEO review tool. Its purpose is to help users inspect the currently active page, Google search result pages, links, technical SEO signals, metadata, structured data, images, headings, accessibility signals, and backlink metrics.
The extension is designed for page-level SEO QA. It does not provide advertising, user tracking, behavioral profiling, or unrelated data monetization features.
2. Information the Extension Handles
The extension may handle the following information when its features are used:
- Active page URL.
- Active page HTML and DOM content.
- Page metadata, including title, description, canonical tags, robots tags, Open Graph tags, Twitter card tags, structured data, headings, image attributes, links, favicon data, content signals, accessibility signals, and technical SEO signals.
- URLs needed for technical checks, such as robots.txt, sitemap URLs, and page links.
- Domain name of the active page for backlink lookup.
- Google search result links and result positions when SERP highlighting or position display features run on Google Search result pages.
- Local extension preferences, such as link highlight settings, highlight colors, enabled highlight types, and highlighted domains.
The extension does not intentionally collect passwords, authentication cookies, payment information, health information, personal communications, private form submissions, or account credentials.
3. How Information Is Used
The extension uses the information above only to provide its user-facing SEO features:
- Generate on-page SEO analysis for the active tab.
- Display metadata, heading, link, image, structured data, social tag, accessibility, and technical SEO findings.
- Highlight matching links or search result domains according to the user’s local settings.
- Show organic search result positions on supported Google Search result pages.
- Request backlink metrics for the active page domain.
- Check robots.txt, sitemap, connection, and link status signals needed for technical SEO review.
The extension does not sell user data. It does not use user data for personalized advertising, retargeting, interest-based advertising, credit decisions, or unrelated profiling.
4. Local Processing and Local Storage
Most on-page analysis is processed inside the extension using the active tab’s URL and HTML. The full active page HTML used for on-page analysis is not sent to Pinavega servers by the current version of the extension.
The extension uses browser local storage for feature settings, including:
- On-page link highlight settings.
- SERP highlighted domain entries.
- Highlight colors and enabled/disabled states.
These settings are stored in the user’s browser through extension storage. They are used to keep the user’s preferences available across browser sessions.
5. Network Requests and External Services
The extension may make network requests that are necessary for its SEO features:
- Technical SEO checks may request resources from the active website or linked websites, including robots.txt, sitemap URLs, connection information, and link status targets.
- Backlink lookup sends the active page’s domain name to the BacklinkScan API at
https://app.backlinkscan.com/api/backlink-checker.
The backlink request sends the domain name, not the full page HTML. The external service may process the request according to its own technical logging and service operation practices.
No remote code is loaded or executed by the extension. Remote requests are used for data retrieval needed by the extension’s user-facing SEO features.
6. Permissions
The extension requests these Chrome permissions:
activeTab: used to access the currently active tab when the user opens or uses the extension for page analysis.scripting: used to run a small script in the active tab to read the current page URL and HTML for SEO analysis.storage: used to save local highlight and display preferences.http://*/*andhttps://*/*host access: used for on-page highlighting, Google Search result features, and technical SEO checks across websites the user chooses to inspect.
These permissions are used only for the extension’s SEO review and highlighting functionality.
7. Data Sharing
Pinavega does not sell extension user data.
The extension may transmit limited data only when needed to provide or improve its single purpose:
- A domain may be sent to BacklinkScan for backlink metrics.
- URLs may be requested from the active site or linked sites for robots.txt, sitemap, connection, and link status checks.
- Data may be disclosed if required by law, security investigation, abuse prevention, merger, acquisition, or transfer of business assets.
Pinavega does not transfer extension user data for advertising, retargeting, interest-based advertising, or unrelated third-party marketing.
8. Retention
Local extension preferences remain in the user’s browser until the user changes them, clears extension storage, or removes the extension.
On-page analysis data is generated for display in the extension interface and is not stored by Pinavega in the current version. Backlink lookup responses may be cached temporarily in the extension popup memory while the popup is open or while the current session is active.
Any server-side logs created by external services or target websites are governed by the applicable service or website practices.
9. Security
Where the extension communicates with Pinavega-related services, it uses HTTPS. The extension does not intentionally collect passwords, payment data, authentication tokens, or private account credentials.
Users should avoid running any browser extension on pages containing highly sensitive information unless they trust the extension and understand the requested permissions.
10. Chrome Web Store Limited Use Disclosure
The extension uses data accessed through Chrome extension permissions only to provide and improve its single purpose and user-facing SEO analysis features.
Pinavega does not use or transfer extension user data for personalized advertising, retargeting, interest-based advertising, or unrelated monetization. Pinavega does not allow humans to read extension user data except where required for user-requested support, security, legal compliance, or aggregated and anonymized internal operations.
Pinavega’s use of extension data is intended to comply with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
